NOVAS INFORMAÇÕES:
Hi again,
Thank you, I appreciate the explanations. Continuing with my doubts about the composition of the bag versus the composition of the site, and additional questions derived from your previous answer.
"(...)fully approved by the EU authorities for pet foods."
and for human consumption? Because we know the parameters have some distance between each of them.
"(...)giving dogs a dose 20 times higher than the approved for 6 months has shown to be safe.)"
This may be a temporal simulation, but equivalent to ten years, you do not have longer studies? for example 30 times the approved for 6 months or 20 times the approved for 9 months.
About the composition in the bags,
I send you in this e-mail, attached, two compositions from two different ranges, where both have different compositions from the site, particularly in terms of ingredients.
Grateful for your attention,
Regina Vieira
"Dear Regina Vieira.
I’m grateful that you appreciate the explanations and info so far. Let us see if it is possible to settle the rest of your concerns.
- In the Dechra Company we are working with medicine, care products and diets for animals. So naturally we are updated on the legislation regarding these things for animals. There is different legislation for the different species, since these are nutritionally and physiologically different, but that is another story. That is also why we follow the regulations and recommendations of the EU authorities for pet foods regarding the composition of both maintenance and therapeutic diets (nutrients, additives a.s.o.) These are the authorities that ensure that pet foods are basically healthy and safe for the pets.
On top of this basis we give the different SPECIFIC diets more special features such as the essential fatty acids from fish oils, glucosamine, a.s.o.
- I am not in a position to evaluate the recommendations for human food as these are not relevant for making healthy, scientifically based therapeutic dog and cat food. To be honest I think it is fair to say, that a quality complete dog food like SPECIFIC is far more balanced, healthy and good for the dogs, than what most people have in their diet. Thus the responsible pet owner will stick to the complete diet as much as possible and avoid additional treats, chews, table scraps, human food and low quality and unbalanced pet food. There are many things to be concerned about: additives, artificial colorants and flavorings, preservatives, shelf life, BSE, Salmonella, high sodium (salt), high fat, GMO’s, a.s.o.
- The study about the antioxidants is to my knowledge the longest one about dogs and antioxidants. (You cannot just do the simple math and say that 20X 6 months = 10 years. Physiology is indeed more complicated.)
- I am sorry that the difference in the package and the website ingredient are different, but they are actually both correct. This is indeed a bit confusing for the responsible pet owner like you, that reads both! There are 2 reasons:
- on the website we indicate the ingredients by name ( = CKD: Maize starch, wheat, rice), because we think this gives the best information, e.g. for allergic animals. The legislation for package labels is different and here we indicate the ingredients by category ( = CKD: Cereals).
- on the website we indicate the total content of vitamins and trace elements in the final diet, but on the packaging legislation tells us to indicate the added amounts of e.g. vitamins and trace elements. (For your information the final amount of some vitamins may be lower than the added amount. This seems strange, but is due to some degradation through the heating process. NB: The total/final amount is still within the limits of the nutritional recommendations.)
This was a long explanation, but to answer your queries, I think it was the best thing to do. I hope this helps you and that you still feel safe feeding your dog a SPECIFIC diet!"
